This British Standard has been prepared under the authority of the Road Engineering Industry Standards Committee and supersedes the 1973 edition. The main changes from that edition are in the manner in which the design loads for in filling have been specified and in the method of verifying the stresses in the members.

This British Standard specifies the design, materials, construction and finish of metal guard rails suitable for restraining pedestrians using the footway from entering the carriageway.
